Excellent Books — And A Contest!
Huzzah — I finished the manuscript, and now I am awaiting judgment. Eek! Meanwhile, I am moving on to write the fourth HELL book. Wish me luck! (Poor Jesse. That’s all I’ve got to say.)
Meanwhile (again), it’s time to plug…
FIVE MOST EXCELLENT BOOKS!

Playing With The Moon by Eliza Graham (from Backspace! Woot!)
[Stolen bluntly from Eliza's terrific press release] Shattered by a recent bereavement, Minna and her husband Tom retreat to an isolated village on the Dorset coast, seeking the solitude that will allow them to cope with their loss and rebuild their foundering marriage. Walking on the beach one day, they unearth a human skeleton. It is a discovery which will plunge Minna into a mystery which will consume her for months to come. The remains are soon identified as those of Private Lew Campbell, a black American GI who, it seems, drowned during a wartime exercise in the area half a century before. Growing increasingly preoccupied with the dead soldier’s fate, Minna befriends a melancholy elderly woman, Felix, who lived in the village during the war. As Minna coaxes Felix’s story from her, it becomes clear that the old woman knows more about the dead GI than she initially let on.

The Liar’s Diary by Patry Francis (also from Backspace! Woot!)
[Stolen bluntly from Patry's website] Jeanne Cross is an ordinary suburban wife and mother with a seemingly “perfect” life when Ali Mather arrives on the scene, breaking all the rules and breaking hearts. Almost against her will, Jeanne is drawn to this powerfully seductive woman, a fascination that soon begins to infect Jeanne’s husband as well as their teenaged son, Jamie. Though their friendship seems unlikely and even dangerous to their mutual acquaintances, Ali and Jeanne are connected by deep emotional needs, vulnerabilities and long-held secrets that Ali has been privately recording in her diary. The diary also holds the key to something darker. Though she can’t prove it, Ali is convinced someone has been entering her house when she is not at home-and not with the usual intentions. What this burglar wants is nothing less than a piece of Ali’s soul. When Ali is found murdered, there are many suspects; but the evidence against Jamie Cross is overwhelming. Jeanne’s personal probing leads her to the question none of us would ever want to face. What comes first: our loyalty to family—or the truth?

Succubus On Top by Richelle Mead (also also from Backspace! We’re taking over the world!)
[Stolen bluntly from Richelle's website. But hey, Georgina is a demon, so this should be OK...]
Love hurts, and no one knows it better than Georgina Kincaid. If she so much as kisses her new boyfriend, she’ll drain his life force. Georgina is a succubus—a demon who draws her power from other men’s pleasure. Admittedly, the shapeshifting and immortality perks are terrific, and yes, Georgina did choose to join the ranks of hell centuries ago. But it seems completely unfair that a she-demon whose purpose is seduction can’t get hot and heavy with the one mortal who knows and accepts her for who she is. It’s not just her personal life that’s in chaos. Doug, Georgina’s co-worker at a local bookstore, has been exhibiting bizarre behavior, and Georgina suspects that something far more demonic than double espressos is at work. She could use help finding out, but Bastien, an irresistibly charming incubus and her best immortal friend, is preoccupied in the suburbs with corrupting an ultra-conservative talk radio star—and giving Georgina some highly distracting come-hither vibes. Georgina is going to have to work solo on this one—and fast because soon, Doug’s life won’t be the only one on the line…

My Big Fat Supernatural Honeymoon by a boatload of terrific authors, including Jim Butcher, Rachel Caine, Lilith Saintcrow…and Caitlin Kittredge! Huzzah, Caitlin! Yes, her story in HONEYMOON scoops her debut novel, which doesn’t hit the shelves for another couple months. But I’ll prattle about her novel at another time.
[Stolen without any sense of remorse from Caitlin's website]
The new paranormal anthology, from St. Martin’s Press. When death cultists crash your wedding night, is the honeymoon truly over? Featuring Caitlin’s short story “Newlydeads,” the anthology covers the trials and travails of that most magical of periods, with a paranormal twist.
