A Lawsuit of Interest to Writers (Really)
If you’re an aspiring author, or an author looking for representation, or an author who just landed an agent and your work is now on submission with editors, or an author who’s already published, chances are you know about Preditors & Editors. (Yes, kids. “Preditors,” not “Predators.” The misspelling is intentional.) If you don’t know about P&E, simply put, it’s one of the best publishing industry watchdog sites out there.
(Holy cats, you’re saying, publishing needs a watchdog? Who knew? Well, that’s another blog post for another day. But the short answer is yes.)
P&E is being sued, as is its owner, Dave Kuzminski. There are two cases. Dave and P&E are being sued in a federal district court by Victor E. Cretella, III, Esq., the lawyer who represents Publish America and in New Jersey by Barbara Bauer, who is listed as one of Absolute Write’s Twenty Worst Literary Agents.
Here’s PN Elrod’s take on Bauer’s lawsuit. Beverage alert.
Mounting a twofold legal defense is taking its toll on Dave, and therefore on P&E. As you’ll see on the P&E site, there’s a spiffy DONATIONS button.
If you’re an author who’s ever visited P&E, please donate.
If you’re an aspiring author who’s ever visited P&E, please donate.
If you’re someone who believes that watchdog organizations provide a valuable service, please donate.
Thanks.
