Rrrrr. Ttttt. (From A to Z!)

Yes, that’s right: rrrrrttttt! Which, of course, is better known as RT, or the Romantic Times Booklovers Convention, which took place this past week in Pittsburgh, PA. That’s Pittsburgh, NOT Philadelphia, contrary to popular (er, or my) belief. Added driving time: three hours. (Note to those who care: Going west on I-90? LONG. Going south on I-79? BROWN. Thank God for cruise control, an iPod filled with killer music, and James Marsters doing the narration for Jim Butcher’s Dresden books. (Mmmm. Spike.)

So…I now give you the Jackie Kessler A- Z breakdown of RT 2008. Pictures to follow on a later post (read: when Loving Husband uploads them for me, because I am still a techno spaz).

A is for authors. Tons of friends and new pals.
B is for Barbara and Joyce, the Publishers Weekly gals.
B is also for Barry Eisler. His John Rain is a winner.
C is for Caitlin Kittredge, who sat next to Barry at dinner.
C is also for Cheyenne McCray, author extraordinaire.
C is also for Charlatan Becci, with tattoos everywhere.
C is ALSO for Charlatan Debi, who is utterly cool.
C is still also for Club RT — Demons, Zombies and Weres (oh my!) rule!
C is lastly for Colleen Gleason. Great to see her! Rejoice!
D is for Dakota Cassidy, who’s got a fantabulous voice.
D is also for drinking — do too much, you’ll get dopey.
E is for Ellora’s Cavemen, whom I hear were rather gropey.
F is for fairies, for the Under the Sea ball.
G is for the goodies at promo alley — oy vey, what a haul!
H is for Heather Osborn and Jozelle Dyer from Tor.
I is for I-90 — a long stretch of driving, what a bore.
J is for Jeanne Stein, a lady with real class.
J is also for Jenna Black, who offered to help kick some ass.
J is ALSO for Jeri Smith-Ready, a terrific cohort!
J is still also for Justice, of the Vampire sort.
J is STILL also for Jo Carol, who is RT’s official greeter.
J is lastly for Jocelyn Drake. It was a pleasure to meet her.
K is for Keri Arthur, who came from Oz (by plane, not boat).
K is also for Kim Harrison and Companion Guy (loved his leather coat).
L is for lunch, a time for awards. L is also for lark.
M is for MaryJanice Davidson, the Queen of the Snark.
M is also for Maureen Cuddy, who was fabulous and all smiles.
M is still also for Michele Bardsley, she of feminine wiles.
M is ALSO for Michelle Rowen, from Canada, eh?
M is STILL ALSO for Miriam Kriss, my agent, hooray!
M is lastly for Mark Henry and Mrs Mark, what a pair!
N is for Nanchez (blame Dakota, if you dare).
O is for Orlando, for RT 2009!
P is panels — workin’ overtime!
P is also for Patrice Michelle. We got recorded, what a blast!
Q is for quick. RT was over much too fast.
R is for Rachel Vincent, who’s awesome, stupendous, marvelous — you get the gist.
R is also for Richelle Mead, who made the New York Times list!
S is for standing. Do you sit? Almost never.
T is for Toni McGee Causey, who had the best buttons ever.
U is for Under the Sea. (Yeah, I already used this. I cheat.)
V is for the Vampire Ball. (Almost impossible to get a seat.)
W is for WHOA, lookit all the hot blokes!
X is for X-rated, which were most of the jokes.
Y is for the Yahoos: Terri, Jose, Lori, Cici, Blake and the rest.
Z is for Zee End — this RT was zee best!

    1. It was amazing!! And thank you Jackie for giving me the button off your badge (I know you love me now) as well as helping me with all those books I was carrying. My husband never did find me a bag so you were a total lifesaver and I am using it to cart my 3 pairs of shoes and various hair accessories to my show which opens this weekend. You are fabulous!! Love ya!!

    7. Sorry I missed you Jackie, you geography-challenged young miss. Yeah, you see, Pittsburgh is on the exact oppostite end of the state, and a MIGHty long haul it is for us on this end! I am still bumming I didn’t go, but we will get together again soon!!!!!!!!!!

by Missy in NJ on April 22nd, 2008 at 2:12 pm

    8. Aw, you’re there in Yahoo spirit, Linda! (I was just running out of creativity!)

Dakota, sweetie, you’ll come to learn that I **always** get it right (when it counts).

Missy, we DEFINITELY have to get together again! And next year in Orlando, babe!

    9. LOL. Thanks, Jackie, you’re very sweet and very awesome!

by Cheyenne McCray on April 22nd, 2008 at 4:11 pm

    10. That was amazing, Jackie! I can still barely put two sentences together, and here you are rhyming. You rock.

by Jeri on April 22nd, 2008 at 4:15 pm

    11. Chey — ditto the sweetness and awesomeness!

Jeri — the problem is I’m also rhyming at the day job.

BOSS: Jackie, have you finished your work?
ME: Not quite yet, but overtime’s a perk!

      :)

by Jackie on April 22nd, 2008 at 4:23 pm

    12. I am so honored to make the, er, list, rhyming no less. It was awesome to be your hellion for RT, although I didn’t get to do much.

Let me say however, Jackie Kessler was made an honorary member of Charlaine’s Charlatans along with Mary Janice Davidson this year at RT, so she is in very vaulted company. Quack!

by Debi Murray on April 22nd, 2008 at 4:57 pm

    13. That was awesome. How’d you get so cute?

by Mark Henry on April 22nd, 2008 at 7:50 pm

    14. Great rhyming Jackie! Lubs ya babe, Cici

by Christina on April 23rd, 2008 at 9:21 am

    15. This makes me wish I had a reason to go to RT! (Although…that rhyming thing might be a problem)

by Heather Brewer on April 23rd, 2008 at 11:24 am

    16. Debi - I’m still grinning over being an official Charlatan! I love the duckies!

Mark - Just born that way. ;)

      Cici - Thanks, babe!

Heather - Ah, the rhyming fades in time. Soon it will all be iambic pentameter…

    17. That was a cool post, Jackie. Glad you had fun at RT.

by Tyhitia on April 23rd, 2008 at 11:33 am

    18. Me too, Tyhitia! Glad you liked the post.

by Jackie on April 23rd, 2008 at 5:13 pm

    19. Obviously, you got more sleep than I did at RT, or you’d never have been able to pull off those rhymes. “See Spot run” was about the most coherent sentence I could come up with when I first got back. (I’m doing better now, thank you.)

by Jenna Black on April 23rd, 2008 at 5:21 pm

    20. Sleep? At RT? Hah! And hah, again! When I got home near midnight, I crawled into bed and didn’t move until my kids jumped into bed 10 hours later to wake me up the bestest way in the world.

by Jackie on April 23rd, 2008 at 11:26 pm

    21. Thanks JAX.. you ROCK and so do your BOOKS !!!

Let me know when you come downstate again we will do dinner :)

    23. Well that is definitely one creative way of putting the RT experience in perspective LOL. I sooo want to go next year lol

      by Anne-Kathrine on April 30th, 2008 at 12:32 pm

    24. Jackeie,
Glad to meet you at RT, at the book fair. The whole con was cool.
