New Books!
It’s Tuesday, and you know what that means: plan on getting your tush over to a bookstore, pronto, because there are tons of new releases out today!
NICE GIRLS DON’T DATE DEAD MEN by Molly Harper
Synopsis stolen bluntly from B&N:
Once a devoted children’s librarian, Jane Jameson now works at a rundown occult bookstore. Once a regular gal, she’s now a vampire. And instead of a bride, she’s an eternal bridesmaid — which leads her to question where exactly her relationship with her irresistibly sexy sire, Gabriel, is headed. Mercurial, enigmatic, apparently commitment-phobic vampires are nothing if not hard to read. While Jane is trying to master undead dating, she is also donning the ugliest bridesmaid’s dress in history at her best friend Zeb’s Titanic-themed wedding. Between a freaked-out groom-to-be, his hostile werewolf in-laws, and Zeb’s mother, hell-bent on seeing Jane walk the aisle with Zeb, Jane’s got the feeling she’s just rearranging the proverbial deck chairs.
Meanwhile, Half Moon Hollow’s own Black Widow, Jane’s Grandma Ruthie, has met her match in her latest fiancé. He smells like bad cheese and has a suspicious history of dead spouses. But Jane’s biting her tongue. After all, would a nice girl really think she has a future with a vampire?

Molly is one of my fellow Reluctant Adults. You should read her series for that reason alone. Plus the fact that she’s a terrific writer and a cool person.
BLOOD PROMISE by Richelle Mead
Synopsis stolen bluntly from B&N:
How far will Rose go to keep her promise?
The recent Strigoi attack at St. Vladimir’s Academy was the deadliest ever in the school’s history, claiming the lives of Moroi students, teachers, and guardians alike. Even worse, the Strigoi took some of their victims with them. . . including Dimitri.
He’d rather die than be one of them, and now Rose must abandon her best friend, Lissa—the one she has sworn to protect no matter what—and keep the promise Dimitri begged her to make long ago. But with everything at stake, how can she possibly destroy the person she loves most?

As of this morning, this book is ranked #7 on B&N and #43 on Amazon. Holy cats. I think I want to be Richelle when I grow up. Damn thing is, she’s younger than me.
TALL, DARK & FANGSOME by Michelle Rowen
Hmm, there’s no synopsis on B&N for me to steal. I was lucky enough to score an ARC, and I gobbled it up. It’s the last book in Michelle’s Immortality Bites series, and it’s the best in the series — even better than STAKES & STILETTOS, which I adored. Michelle keeps the tension high, while the humor is just as sharp as ever — and she wraps up all the storylines in a terrific way. I’m bummed that this is the last of the Sarah Dearly chronicles…but I know more terrific books are coming from Michelle.
THE DARKEST WHISPER by Gena Showalter
Synopsis stolen bluntly from B&N:
Bound by the demon of Doubt, Sabin unintentionally destroys even the most confident of lovers. So the immortal warrior spends his time on the battlefield instead of the bedroom, victory his only concern…until he meets Gwendolyn the Timid. One taste of the beautiful redhead, and he craves more.
Gwen, an immortal herself, always thought she’d fall for a kind human who wouldn’t rouse her darker side. But when Sabin frees her from prison, battling their enemies for the claim to Pandora’s box turns out to be nothing compared to the battle Sabin and Gwen will wage against love…

As of this morning, this book is ranked #37 on B&N.com. Dude. That’s insanely cool.
RETRIBUTION by Jeanne Stein
Synopsis stolen bluntly from B&N:
With her partner out of town, her family abroad, and her mentor estranged, newly-turned vampire Anna Strong is keeping a low profile.
But now young vampires are turning up dead, completely drained of their life force. And though Anna wants to say no when Williams, her former teacher and now leader of a supernatural enforcement squad, asks for her help, she can’t. But soon, she’ll wish she did.

Jeanne is one of the most amazing people I’ve ever met. She’s a real classy broad, as well as a fellow Reluctant Adult. Yes, Reluctant Adults **can** be classy. Jeanne is proof of that. And she proves that truly talented authors can write in the present tense and kick ass while doing so. If you haven’t read the Anna Strong series yet, you’re missing out. Go buy.
Edited to add:
Missed one! See what happens when there are so many fabulous books out on the same day? There’s just TOO MUCH AWESOMENESS HAPPENING!
MATTERS OF THE BLOOD by Maria Lima
Synopsis stolen bluntly from B&N:
If you thought your family was strange…
Try being Keira Kelly. A member of a powerful paranormal family, Keira elected to stay among humans in the Texas Hill Country when the rest of the clan moved (lock, stock, and grimoire) to Canada. But family duty means still having to keep an eye on cousin Marty — a genetic aberration who turned out 100% human, poor guy. And recently Keira’s been having violent dreams — or are they visions? — featuring Marty as the victim of a vicious murder. Something sinister seems to be brewing in little Rio Seco. Can Keira get to the bottom of it all while avoiding entanglement with her former lover, Sheriff Carlton Larson? And what does she plan to do about the irresistible and enigmatic Adam Walker? When this old friend shows up as the new owner of a local ranc and wants to get better acquainted, Keira is more than happy to be welcoming…until she suspects that Adam could be intimately connected to the dangerous doings in Rio Seco.
Maria is awesomeness incarnate. Seriously. Go buy MATTERS OF THE BLOOD!
